The Durham Road site has been sold by brewery Greene King to the German supermarket firm Lidl, which organised a public consultation to explain its plans.A spokesman for the chain, said hundreds of people had turned out to examine the plans.
The proposals had been given the thumbs-up by residents and their suggestions were now being incorporated into the final application."We held a public consultation event at St Mary and St Peter's Church and were delighted with the overall turnout," he said."We estimate more than 500 local residents attended and the feedback was unanimously positive, with only a few minor queries.
"There is a distinct lack of convenience shopping facilities in this area, with many local residents having to travel a great distance to do their food shopping."Lidl stores serve a local catchment and as such Lidl always involve the community and listen to their ideas when formulating proposals."
As a result of the feedback received, we are in the process of making some minor amendments in advance of submitting a full planning application in the near future."Barnes ward councillor Tony Morrisey is pleased the pub is to be replaced by something of use to residents."It is a pity to see the end of The Prospect and it means The Wavendon is now the only pub in the Barnes ward," he said.
